Project Description
Cristina English School is a project of Dream Big Cambodia, a non-profit local organization. Cristina English School is an English school that operates in the village of Bakong, in the outskirts of Siem Reap, Cambodia. Its ultimate goal is to ease the situation of the most disadvantaged children from the countryside and to give them better opportunities in life, by providing them with free English lessons that help them improve their academic preparation and their overall skills. Concurrently to that, having become a meeting point for lots of children around the area, the project has grown as an important element of social cohesion, after gaining a solid reputation as a safe place for the children to grow, share and play while their parents finalize their hours of work.
Work
Being a volunteer for Dream Big Cambodia is an unique opportunity to experience rural life in Cambodia, build relationships with locals as well as other international volunteers. The main task of an international volunteer for Dream Big Cambodia is to carry out the English lessons of the organization. We currently teach at a public school in the Bakong district and at our own school. We have several classes over the day, starting from 9am in the morning. Between the lessons we have freetime and the weekends are free. We have a framework for lesson planning that should be followed. Though we always encourage volunteers to bring new ideas and share what they are passionate about in our project.
