Host ESC Volunteers
What is ESC?
European Solidarity Corps (ESC) is part of the EU’s Erasmus+ programme, which offers people aged between 17 and 30 the chance to volunteer with a non-profit organisation in a European country for up to 12 months.
What benefits will ESC volunteers bring to my organisation?
You will be able to rely on committed and enthusiastic volunteers for up to 12 months. ESC volunteers can bring new skills, ideas, and an intercultural dimension to your work. ESC placements are full time and funded – the Erasmus+ grant covers the volunteer’s travel, food, accommodation, and pocket money while on placement with you.
How do I build a good ESC project?
ESC volunteers should not replace members of staff, or take on what would normally be a paid role. An ESC project should avoid being entirely based on purely administrative tasks and would have to consider existing skills, knowledge and interests of the volunteer. The volunteer should be able to develop personally and professionally, actively participate in society and ultimately improve their employability within the EU labour market.
To understand more about the aims of ESC, watch this video here.
Great, how do I become an ESC host?
1. Become an ESC accredited organisation: IVS can help you in the process of getting approved as an official host.
2. Get your project approved: IVS will apply for funding for your project and coordinate the grant. There are 3 deadlines each year.
3. Select your volunteers: IVS will receive the applications and help you in the selection process.
4.You can now welcome your new volunteer to the team!
Please note that in some cases stage 2 and 3 are reversed.
You can also learn more the application process to host a volunteering project including funding available by watching this video here.
Funding application deadlines for 2019 are: first round 7 February 2019 (11am UK time), second round on 30 April 2019 (11am UK time) and third round 1 October 2019 (11am UK time).
What will IVS do?
IVS is an accredited ESC sending and coordinating organisation. Each year we send UK young volunteers abroad and we support UK ESC hosts by:
– Fulfilling the administrative and financial requirements of the programmes.
– Providing training and support for hosts and volunteers.
– Support you in organising volunteer travel, accommodation and allowances.
We can help you to contribute positively to your organisation’s environment with talented, diverse volunteers.
Are you worried about Brexit? Please note that all projects approved prior to the UK’s withdrawal from the EU will be carried out and receive funding as normal.
