IVS volunteer Eleanor Clements just returned from a project in Belgium. She spent two weeks volunteering at a Red Cross asylum seeker centre. Eleanor has described her time away and has sent us some photographs.
I went to a red cross centre for asylum seekers for 2 weeks. We lived with and got to know the residents there and organised fun activities both for adults and children.
It was a really great experience, I learned so much about asylum seeking and the migration crisis, and hearing about people’s journeys to Belgium was very moving.
It was amazing to meet so many people from so many different countries and cultures and there was a strong feeling of international solidarity.
