Volunteers Aged 16-17

How old do I have to be to start being an IVS volunteer?

16 and 17 year olds can apply to take part in some international voluntary projects taking place in Great Britain. These are just the same as international projects abroad, except that they happen here in Britain. You can apply for the British projects before you are 16, so long as you are 16 when the project starts.

How do I find out what projects are available?

Look at the projects in the Great Britain list. If you would like to apply, contact the office to confirm that the project can accommodate under 18s.

Can I go abroad?

You need to be 18 or over to apply for international projects overseas, unless you are going with a parent or guardian.

What if I am uncertain about volunteering?

  • Attend one of our preparation days.
  • Speak to a volunteer who has previously participated in that project or a similar project.
  • Call our office.

How do I get to the Project?

When you have been placed on a project, joining details will be forwarded to you with full instructions on how to get there, but if you feel unsure, contact the IVS office.

What will happen when I arrive at the Project?

Other international volunteers will also have arrived, a representative from the project host will be there and you will be briefed regarding the accommodation, catering, day to day operation of the project and local amenities etc.

IVS Projects are fun, an experience you will never forget, meet people from many different countries, make new friends and learn new skills and increase your confidence. Make your decision NOW. Good Luck.

Taster Events - This programme is not currently running.

taster1_thumb85h Taster Events are mini projects aimed at 15 – 25 year olds. Running either for one day or over a weekend, the events are designed to encourage young volunteers who may be interested in the idea of participating in an IVS project at some time in the future, to find out more about volunteering . The events will give you a ‘Taste’ of what it will be like to work, live and socialise as a group, as well as helping community projects and sharing experiences with long standing IVS members.
