Where your money goes
The membership and registration fee that you pay to IVS contributes to the running costs of the organisation. IVS has a minimal staff, one full-time and one part-time member of staff supported by interns and office volunteers.

The project hosts provide food and accommodation for the volunteers from their own funds. IVS sometimes helps the project to raise funds.
In the Short-Term Programme, IVS receives fees from volunteers going out of the UK to do their project.
We receive no money for the volunteers that come to British projects. They pay their fee to their own branch.

IVS works hard to raise funds from Trusts, Business and local and national Government. IVS takes on the role of fundraiser rather than passing on the costs of running the organisation to the volunteer. The idea is to offer low cost volunteering opportunities so that it is more inclusive and available to a wide range of people.
In the North-South Programme, you may be asked to pay an additional fee to the host organisation. This fee will be used to cover their administration costs, and to provide food and accommodation.
In the North-South Programme, the branches and partners have very few outgoing volunteers that can pay them a registration fee, so they need an extra fee from incoming volunteers to help to keep the organisation running.
