We send volunteers to over 20 countries in central Europe which offer a wide range of voluntary projects.
Essential Information
You must be 18 or over to take part in an IVS project abroad.
The nature of projects reflects the economic and social development of individual countries. Some countries work with an extensive network of local groups and have lots of activities going on; others are rather small and focus on presenting a limited programme around specifically identified needs. All projects are organised in partnership with local voluntary organisations and community groups, which in one way or another, support the overall aims of SCI/IVS. Every project has a particular work theme or issue, e.g. environmental conservation or solidarity work, as well as a study part related to the type of project work. Some projects may involve 2 or more types of work e.g. an environmental arts project.
Eco Travel
Fossil fuel use is the main reason for global climate change. Travelling by air consumes 10 - 30 times more energy (fossil fuel) than travelling by train or bus. SCI campaigns for members and volunteers going on projects to use more sustainable ways of travel. Think about it - before booking your ticket!
